Apple Paid $17 Billion in Taxes to Ireland
Apple paid $17 billion in corporate taxes to Ireland last year, accounting for 40% of its total global tax obligations. The amount increased following a 2024 European Court ruling that required the company to pay Ireland €13 billion in unpaid taxes, acknowledging that the country provided "illegal state aid." Overall, Apple paid $43 billion in corporate income tax worldwide last year. According to new European Union requirements, a quarter of Apple's pre-tax global profit for the fiscal year ending September 2025 passed through Irish structures, where only about 3% of its workforce is located. In Ireland, the corporation recorded $6 million in taxable profit per employee, while in Germany, this figure was $51,000 per person. Apple paid $153 million in Germany, which represents 0.3% of its global taxes. Other companies also show similar trends: Microsoft routed 38% of its global profits through Ireland, while Procter & Gamble reported $115 million in profits in Luxembourg without paying taxes.
