Bitcoin daily transactions rise to 700000-800000, efficiency gains drive growth
Bitcoin's daily transaction count increased from approximately 372000 in January 2025 to 700000-800000 in October 2026, primarily due to enhanced transaction-processing efficiency rather than actual demand growth, according to an analysis. The rise is attributed to more low-value transactions utilizing SegWit, which optimizes block space by separating signature data from transaction data. Transactions under 0.01 BTC now represent about 80% of total activity, with block space utilization reaching approximately 98%. Despite the increase in transaction volume, average transaction fees decreased to about 0.32 by late October. If demand had surged, competition for block space would likely have led to higher fees. Additionally, miners' fee income is declining, raising concerns about long-term Bitcoin network security if mining rewards continue to diminish and fee revenue remains low.
