Hanwha Builds Tokenized Securities Platform on Avalanche, Ahead of Korean Legal Reforms
Hanwha Builds Tokenized Securities Platform on Avalanche
Hanwha Investment & Securities, a major financial institution in South Korea, has reportedly established a security token management infrastructure utilizing blockchain technology in collaboration with tech company FairSquare Lab.
This system employs a multi-chain environment that spans both Avalanche and Hyperledger Besu, featuring an advanced design that ensures operational flexibility and regulatory compliance.
Rapid Adaptation to Revised Capital Markets Act Effective in 2027
In the South Korean market, a revised law is expected to come into effect in February 2027, officially recognizing distributed ledgers as "securities registries."
Under the guidelines proposed by the Korean Financial Services Commission (FSC), tokenization will initially be permitted for private funds, certain bonds, and unlisted stocks via trusts, with plans to gradually expand the scope to include all publicly offered securities.
Hanwha aims to prepare its technical infrastructure during this grace period, enabling immediate entry into the market upon its opening.
Diversified Strategic Investments in Financial IT
The group's proactive investment in blockchain-related businesses is also noteworthy. Hanwha has secured a 9.6% stake in U.S.-based Securitize, a leader in tokenization technology, becoming its largest shareholder. Additionally, in July 2026, it executed a 30 billion won investment in Digital Asset, the company behind Canton Network.
Through these initiatives, Hanwha is steadily advancing towards building a comprehensive ecosystem that encompasses issuance, circulation, and future payment infrastructures through stablecoins and other means.
