Meet Kute, the New Bitcoin Wallet for Generation Z
Founded by Portuguese João Pedro Lobo Miranda, Kute enters the market aiming to broaden financial access for people, aspiring to be for Generation Z what Nubank was for the previous generation. The evolution lies in the fact that the company cannot touch customers' funds.
In summary, Kute is not a wallet with embedded banking functionalities, but rather a cryptocurrency-focused financial app that allows for payments, savings, investments, and prediction markets all in one place.
"This generation does not mentally distinguish between euros, dollars, crypto, or V-Bucks: it’s all money, and it must be spendable anywhere, anytime. The market is converging towards total liquidity."
As an example, Miranda highlights that current existing bridges fail in this area, including Phantom and MetaMask, which have outdated interfaces and a poor multi-currency experience.
Given this, one of Kute's main features is the sending and receiving of stablecoins without leaving Bitcoin. "Those receiving a payment in USDT see the value arrive converted; those needing to send USDC send from the Bitcoin they already had. The conversion happens at the moment of the transaction --- the balance never sits idle in a stablecoin."
In other words, the user does not have wallets scattered across various networks, nor exposure to the issuers of these stablecoins, also having greater security by being exposed to fewer networks, contracts, approvals, and sites.
Despite the focus on Bitcoin, Miranda acknowledges that stablecoins carry significant weight in both the Brazilian and Latin markets.
Currently, the Kute wallet is available for download on Google Play, where it boasts a rating of 4.9 stars after more than 100 downloads, as well as for iOS via TestFlight.
The current version already offers various features, including:
- On-chain Bitcoin and Lightning Network (BOLT11, LNURL, Lightning addresses, zaps);
- Compatibility with the most popular hardware wallets on the market (Ledger, Jade, Coldcard, Passport, SeedSigner, among others);
- Integration with Polymarket with on-chain settlements (availability by region);
- Bitcoin purchases;
- Recovery via passkey and BIP-39;
- Sending and receiving USDT, USDC and other currencies.
For upcoming versions, Kute is set to integrate with Pix in Brazil, as well as euro accounts with IBAN SEPA, Hyperliquid (ensuring exposure to the stock market), Morpho (allowing yield on idle balances), and Sal (proprietary AI aimed at assisting the user).
Co-founder and CTO of Satsails, a Bitcoin/Liquid wallet focused on the Brazilian market, João Pedro Lobo Miranda emphasizes that "the generation that most needs to exit the traditional financial system is the one most trapped in it."
"Not due to a lack of conviction: but due to a lack of a functioning product. Those wanting Bitcoin end up at an exchange, because the exchange is easy, and self-custody is ugly, difficult, and speaks a language that no one under 30 wants to learn. And those who enter through custody rarely exit it."
The Kute wallet allows for organizing money in zones. For example, the user can keep large sums in hardware wallets integrated with Kute and also in hot storage for daily transactions. "Normally, cold custody lives in a separate, austere software designed for those who already know what they are doing. Here it is next to the Lightning balance."
The next step will be the integration of the traditional financial layer, as already highlighted above.
Another highlight is the wallet's backup solution via passkey. This is because it can be accessed both by Face ID and fingerprint even on a new device, reducing the risk of losing funds.
"The passkey does not replace the seed: it derives it. Through the PRF extension of WebAuthn, the authenticator of the device itself produces a secret that generates a standard 12-word BIP-39 mnemonic, always the same. It’s the normal seed of a Bitcoin wallet, only no one had to write it down on paper. And for those who want, it is available for export in the settings at any time."
In addition, the user can also choose to export their twelve words to another Bitcoin wallet.
In conclusion, Miranda explains that neobanks and exchanges cannot offer self-custody because it goes against their business models, cutting off their revenues, which is where Kute differentiates itself from existing companies.
