Bitdeer Expands Johor AI Capacity With 10-Year 65.1 MW Deal

- The main variable now is execution, not the headline capacity figure. Bitdeer said the new A202 facility is expected to be energized in the third quarter of 2027, so the market will be watching buildout progress, power delivery and whether the project stays on schedule.
- The second point is conversion of pipeline into contracted business. The company disclosed an active AI project reserve above $7 billion, but customer names, booking structure and revenue timing were not detailed, leaving visibility on monetization limited.
- Investors should also watch whether Bitdeer can keep securing liquid-cooled rack supply. Management said demand has already exceeded supply by 2027, which suggests capacity access could become a competitive constraint across AI infrastructure providers.
Bitdeer said it has signed a 10-year data center services agreement for 65.1 megawatts of AI computing capacity at its Johor Bahru, Malaysia campus, increasing its secured AI cloud data center capacity to about 206.5 megawatts and putting its active AI project pipeline above $7 billion.
The agreement covers A202, a 65.1 MW AI cloud data center facility on the same Johor Bahru campus as Bitdeer’s 21.7 MW A201 site. Bitdeer described A202 as its largest single AI capacity addition in Southeast Asia to date. The company said all megawatt figures refer to critical IT load.
According to the company, the new agreement lifts Bitdeer’s secured AI cloud data center capacity across Malaysia, Norway and the United States to about 206.5 MW. Bitdeer has said it is targeting up to 350 MW of AI cloud capacity to be delivered by the first quarter of 2028, which means the newly disclosed total represents a significant share of that goal.
Bitdeer Chief Financial Officer Michael Potter said demand for liquid-cooled, rack-scale AI capacity has already surpassed supply by 2027. That comment aligns with the company’s push to expand beyond bitcoin mining into AI infrastructure and cloud services, a strategy several mining-linked operators have pursued as high-performance computing demand rises.
Some important details remain undisclosed. Bitdeer did not identify the customer tied to the A202 agreement or outline pricing, minimum commitments or the share of its pipeline that is already under firm contract. The company’s statement also included its June operating update, saying it mined 990 bitcoin during the month and allocated 1.93 EH/s of hash rate to a 28 MW wind-powered joint mining project in Texas, though those items were secondary to the AI infrastructure announcement.
Why It Matters
The announcement adds to a broader shift in the mining sector, where infrastructure owners are trying to use their power access, site development experience and cooling capabilities to serve AI workloads as well as crypto mining. For Bitdeer, the significance is less about immediate crypto market impact and more about whether it can turn power capacity into a second business line with longer-duration contracts.
The deal also highlights how AI data center competition is increasingly centered on access to power and specialized cooling infrastructure. A long-term agreement in Johor Bahru gives Bitdeer a larger position in that buildout, but the commercial value will depend on delivery, customer conversion and the ability to bring capacity online at scale.
