Fairshake Unveils $30 Million Campaign Against Sherrod Brown

- The main variable now is whether Fairshake keeps this focused on Brown or broadens spending quickly across other Senate and House races, as it has signaled.
- Markets should also watch whether the campaign reshapes expectations around future crypto legislation in Washington, especially after the recent clash over the CLARITY Act.
- Fairshake’s remaining financial firepower matters. The group said it has $120.4 million in reserve, leaving room for additional intervention beyond Ohio.
The story is less about near-term trading and more about how crypto capital is trying to influence the next U.S. regulatory map.
Fairshake said it will begin a $30 million advertising and mail campaign on Tuesday against Ohio Democratic Senate candidate Sherrod Brown, escalating the crypto industry’s political fight with one of its longtime critics in Congress.
Fairshake said the campaign will include ad placements and direct mail. The announcement followed a recent setback for the crypto-friendly CLARITY Act, which the original report said was blocked by Democrats last week. Fairshake framed the new spending as part of a broader effort to push back against future regulatory pressure on the industry under Democratic leadership.
Brown has been a frequent target for crypto-backed political groups because of his long record of support for tougher digital-asset oversight and consumer protections. He previously served as the top Democrat on the Senate Banking Committee, and the original report said that if he wins election again, he would return to that committee.
Fairshake said it spent $41 million against Brown in 2024, when he was one of the industry’s highest-profile political opponents. Background reporting also shows Brown had become a central adversary for crypto advocates because of his committee role and his repeated calls for tighter regulation of digital assets.
The group said it currently has $120.4 million in reserve and plans to announce support for, or opposition to, candidates from both parties in House and Senate races. Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse and Tyler Winklevoss have publicly backed the initiative, underscoring continued support from major crypto figures for election spending tied to policy outcomes.
Why It Matters
This campaign highlights how U.S. crypto policy is being contested not only through lobbying and legislation, but increasingly through direct election spending. For the industry, control over key congressional seats can affect the tone of oversight, the fate of market-structure bills, and how aggressively future regulators approach exchanges, token issuers, and other digital-asset firms.
It also shows that crypto political spending remains organized and well funded even after the 2024 cycle. That could keep regulation as a live electoral issue in 2026, especially in races tied to banking, financial-services, and market-structure committees.
