Coinbase Files CFTC Product for Single-Stock Perpetual Futures
Coinbase Financial Markets has submitted a filing to the Commodity Futures Trading Commission for single-stock perpetual futures, initially covering Apple, Tesla, and Nvidia. The trading of these products is not yet live as they remain in the regulatory process. Perpetual futures, popular in the crypto space, allow leveraged trading without a fixed expiry date. This model, applied to individual stocks, enables traders to take leveraged positions without owning the underlying shares. The filing aligns with Coinbase's strategy to build a regulated derivatives infrastructure in the U.S. The company holds Designated Contract Market status, providing a regulatory path for product approval. However, approval and immediate trading are not guaranteed. If successful, the market for regulated single-stock perpetuals could expand to a broader range of equities.
