First Crypto Exchanges and Depositories Registered in Russia

On October 5, new rules for the registration of digital depositories and crypto exchanges came into effect in Russia. The following day, the first crypto licenses were issued, and the Central Bank's website introduced a feature to verify the legality of crypto exchanges. As of October 9, five digital depositories are listed in the registers: Sber, VTB, Atomize, Voltari, and Cloud Infrastructure. Six crypto exchanges received licenses: VTB, T-Invest Lab, Zephyr, System-Crypto, ProBank, and Finpilot. The Moscow Exchange announced the launch of organized trading in cryptocurrencies starting December 1, with active testing underway. Sber has begun testing cryptocurrency operations in its mobile application and plans to offer clients the ability to conduct cryptocurrency transactions starting December 1. At the Sberbank Investment Forum "Real Future," Sberbank CEO Herman Gref advised investors to focus on Sberbank shares rather than meme coins, highlighting the future of tokenization and digital financial assets. The First Deputy Chairman of the Bank of Russia, Vladimir Chistyukhin, stated that the trend towards anonymity in cryptocurrencies is fading, and crypto transfers should be transparent to regulatory authorities.

Bitcoin traded near $86,000. On October 6 ET, markets will watch Amazon’s fall Prime event and early sales signals for consumer-sector pricing.
