Former CFTC Chairman Calls for Clear Crypto Spot Market Regulations
Former U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission Chairman Rostin Behnam stated that Congress must establish clearer legal standards for regulating cryptocurrencies and prediction markets. At Georgetown University’s Financial Markets Quality Conference, Behnam emphasized the need to differentiate between financial products for risk management and gambling due to the rapid growth of prediction markets. He criticized the lack of progress on the CLARITY Act, a digital asset market structure bill, and described the current regulation of the crypto spot market under the CFTC’s existing authority as a temporary solution. Behnam argued that the current approach is a patchwork fix and called for a clearer long-term regulatory framework.
