The Chief Executive Officer of the Hong Kong Securities and Futures Commission, Ashley Alder, stated at the Asian Securities and Financial Markets Association meeting that measures to reform the market microstructure are being studied, including extending trading hours for securities, with the first phase to be implemented in the derivatives market. This initiative aims to help investors cope with global market changes across time zones and ensure Hong Kong's competitive advantage. In the long term, extending trading hours will be combined with other innovative measures, such as tokenized currencies and digital Hong Kong dollar settlement arrangements, to enhance investors' flexibility and risk management capabilities. The Hong Kong Stock Exchange will release a discussion paper on extending trading hours for the spot market in the fourth quarter and welcomes public feedback.
