Intel Confirms Continued Participation in Musk's Terafab Project
Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger stated in Tokyo that Intel will continue to participate in Musk's Terafab project, having previously signed on as a development partner. This statement confirms that the company has not withdrawn from the project. Musk had previously revealed discussions with TSMC regarding potential collaboration, raising market concerns about how TSMC's involvement might affect Intel's role, which led to a temporary drop of 3.9% in Intel's stock price. Terafab is a significant initiative for Musk as he ventures into advanced chip manufacturing, with the global demand for chips and related equipment increasing amid the expansion of AI infrastructure, putting pressure on the supply chain's capacity. Musk has requested suppliers to expedite the progress of Terafab, with several suppliers currently operating at high capacity.
