NVIDIA GB300 NVL72 Rack Confirms Maximum Power of 142kW
NVIDIA's GB300 NVL72 rack has been confirmed to support a maximum power of 142kW. This rack features a liquid cooling system that integrates 72 Blackwell Ultra GPUs and 36 Grace CPUs. According to official documents, it includes eight 33kW power shelves. The 180kW figure mentioned in some reports differs from NVIDIA's official specifications. The power demand of AI data centers is determined by the overall system efficiency rather than the power consumption of individual chips. The International Energy Agency (IEA) projects that data center power consumption will more than double from 415TWh in 2024 to 945TWh in 2030. The U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) stated that U.S. power demand is expected to grow at an average annual rate of 1.7% from 2020 to 2025. Goldman Sachs predicts that U.S. data center power demand will increase from 31GW in 2026 to 41GW, and to 66GW in 2027. NVIDIA emphasizes efficiency metrics over absolute power consumption, claiming that the GB300 NVL72 achieves 50 times the token processing per watt compared to Hopper-based platforms. Additionally, Bitcoin mining companies are also prioritizing power acquisition and grid connection as key aspects of their business.
