In Japanese:
Securitize and LG CNS have partnered to promote the spread of tokenized assets in South Korea. Based on a memorandum of understanding (MOU), we will combine our experience in building regulated tokenization infrastructure with LG CNS's technological capabilities and extensive network in the South Korean financial industry.
Both companies have revealed plans to integrate Securitize's deep expertise in regulatory-compliant tokenization with LG CNS's strong network and technological capabilities with local financial institutions, aiming to build advanced financial solutions with a focus on the Asia-Pacific region.
Developing the Digital Asset Market for Institutional Investors
The primary target of this partnership is institutional investors such as banks, asset management companies, and securities firms across South Korea and the Asia-Pacific region. The two companies plan to jointly promote market development, explore use cases, and raise awareness in order to enable financial institutions to safely and efficiently enter the digital asset market.
Carlos Domingo, co-founder and CEO of Securitize, positions South Korea as a key market with advanced technology and financial infrastructure, expressing his desire to support the construction of infrastructure that allows for the provision of higher-quality financial products on-chain in South Korea.
Three Key Areas and Infrastructure Development
The areas of cooperation agreed upon by both companies can be broadly categorized into the following three elements:
〇Market Development for Institutional Investors
Joint exploration of business opportunities targeting the financial sector, including banks and asset management companies.
〇Development of Tokenization Technology Suitable for South Korean Regulatory Framework
Development of tokenized securities (security tokens) and fund-related technologies tailored to local laws and compliance requirements, rather than generic solutions.
〇Establishment of Stablecoin and Treasury Management Infrastructure
Examination of financial management products for digital assets and stablecoin infrastructure. In the future, subject to regulatory approval, the aim is to connect South Korean tokenized assets with the global market, supporting 24/7 circulation, trading, and settlement.
It should be noted that the current initiatives are at the "exploration stage" and based on the "memorandum of understanding," and do not have legal binding force. The specific launch of products and services will depend on future applicable laws, regulatory approvals, and internal compliance reviews by the companies.
LG CNS's Existing Infrastructure and the "KITL" Platform
LG CNS already has a wealth of experience in the digital asset and blockchain space in South Korea.
The company has launched the blockchain platform KITL (Keystone of Institutional Trust Landscape), targeting banks, securities firms, and card companies, providing various services related to stablecoins, real-world assets (RWA), and tokenized securities.
"KITL" integrates digital wallet and transaction processing functions, as well as support for network fees (gas fees). The company has previously participated in the Bank of Korea's deposit token pilot project, Project Hangang, and has built the issuance infrastructure for the shared security token system KoSTO used by Hyundai Motor Securities. This partnership combines Securitize's global insights with LG CNS's existing domestic achievements.
Approaching the Introduction of New Regulations in February 2027
In South Korea, a new regulatory framework for tokenized securities is scheduled to be introduced, with the new rules expected to take effect in February 2027. In preparation for this move, local financial institutions are showing strong interest in developing a regulatory-compliant digital asset market.
Hongkeun Kim, Vice President overseeing LG CNS's digital business division, points out that South Korea is at a critical turning point in asset tokenization, emphasizing that the purpose of this partnership is to support local financial institutions in building "practical and regulatory-compliant applications."
On the other hand, Securitize has been experiencing growth in the scale of RWA it manages, holding a significant share in the global on-chain financial market. It remains to be seen how the strengths of both companies will materialize into specific services within the new tokenization regulatory framework that South Korea will soon adopt.
