US and Iran to Discuss Strait Reopening Proposal on 28th or 29th
The United States and Iran are expected to hold talks on the 28th or 29th through a mediator, focusing on Iran's proposal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz within seven days, which was presented during the United Nations General Assembly. Iranian Foreign Minister Amir-Abdollahian is currently in the U.S. with the Qatari mediator. On the 22nd, U.S. presidential envoy Witte and Trump's son-in-law Kushner held indirect talks with Amir-Abdollahian in New York. Iran proposed that if the U.S. lifts the maritime blockade, cancels oil sales sanctions, and restores regional ceasefire, it would reopen the Strait of Hormuz and resume nuclear negotiations within seven days. Trump has confirmed the rejection of this proposal and stated that he expects U.S.-Iran negotiations to resume in the following week.
