Washington Releases GDP and Inflation Data on Ten Public Blockchains
The U.S. Department of Commerce has been releasing real GDP, the PCE price index, and final sales to private buyers on ten public blockchains since September 1, including Ethereum, Arbitrum, and Base. This initiative aims to make economic statistics immutable and globally accessible, reinforcing the United States' role in blockchain innovation. Each indicator is available in two versions: the raw level and the annualized quarterly change, totaling six data streams that can be accessed by any program connected to the blockchain. Updates follow the frequency of the BEA, either monthly or quarterly, without manual intervention. This paves the way for practical applications such as predictive markets on inflation and financial products indexed to GDP. This is not the first time the Department of Commerce has utilized blockchain; a partnership with Chainlink and Pyth Network had already placed some data on the blockchain in August 2025. This time, the scope is larger with ten chains covered and an official statement from Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick asserting that this makes American economic truth more immutable and accessible than ever before.
