Bipartisan U.S. Senators Push for AI Accountability Legislation, Companies to Be Held Responsible for AI Intrusions
Republican Senator Josh Hawley and Democratic Senator Chris Murphy plan to introduce the "AI Accountability Act," which would require companies to bear criminal and civil liability for hacking incidents. The lawmakers believe that current laws do not clearly define responsibility in cases of AI intrusions, necessitating new legislation. In contrast, government officials argue that existing laws are sufficient to address the harms caused by AI. U.S. Director of National Intelligence Jay Clayton pointed out that there are already consumer protection laws and product liability laws in place to handle related issues. Trump supports Clayton's appointment as the head of AI affairs.
