Microsoft X Account Hacked to Promote CLIPPY Meme Coin

By: news.bitcoin.com|10/02/2026 21:51:19

Microsoft's official X account was unauthorizedly accessed on Thursday, briefly retweeting a post promoting the unofficial meme coin CLIPPY and changing its profile picture to Clippy. The related content was deleted about 30 minutes later, and Microsoft confirmed that the account has been secured, with the unauthorized posts removed, stating that it will continue to investigate. Microsoft stated that it has never authorized anyone to use its intellectual property, including Clippy, to promote tokens and plans to take legal action. The CLIPPY token's account, Clippy MSFT, had previously advertised a liquidity pool valued at over $200,000, with some promoters claiming it was backed by real Microsoft stock, but this claim has not been verified and has no official connection to Microsoft.
