Seven Senate Democrats Collaborate with Republicans to Pass CLARITY Act
Seven Senate Democrats have announced their intention to continue negotiations with Republicans to advance the comprehensive virtual asset market legislation known as the CLARITY Act. On the 17th, Eleanor Terrett, a reporter for Crypto in America, reported on X that Senators Kirsten Gillibrand, Mark Warner, Ruben Gallego, and Angela Alsobrooks, among others, are committed to working in a bipartisan manner to pass the CLARITY Act. This statement comes amid initial moves to resume negotiations on the CLARITY Act between the two parties. According to sources, both sides are gauging their willingness to resume negotiations to pass the CLARITY Act before the end of the year. The U.S. Senate held a procedural vote on the 15th to end debate on the CLARITY Act and move it to the next stage, but it failed with 49 votes in favor and 50 against. Ending debate requires 60 votes. This vote does not determine the final passage of the bill, and the joint statement from the Democratic senators indicates the possibility of continuing bipartisan negotiations. The CLARITY Act aims to delineate the supervisory authority of the SEC and CFTC in the U.S. digital asset market and establish a regulatory framework for exchanges and intermediaries.
