Global Money Supply Reaches 103.66 Trillion, Bitcoin Remains 33% Below Peak

Global money supply across the four largest economies hit a record 103.66 trillion dollars in August. Despite this milestone, Bitcoin (BTC) trades approximately 33% below its October peak, while gold prices are declining. The Federal Reserve, European Central Bank, Bank of Japan, and People's Bank of China collectively added 1 trillion dollars in August, marking the 10th consecutive monthly increase. The total money supply grew roughly 8% year-over-year, but at fixed exchange rates, growth is around 4.5%, significantly lower than its 2021 peak. US M2 reached a record 23.34 trillion dollars in August, up 5.7% annually, while China's M2 rose 7.5% and euro area M3 grew 3.5%. Bitcoin has historically tracked the pace of money growth rather than its level, with its peaks aligning with M2 growth highs in previous years. However, since late 2025, M2 growth has slowed, which correlates with Bitcoin's recent weakness. Currently, Bitcoin is trading near 84650 dollars, up 0.7% in the last 24 hours. The Federal Reserve raised interest rates to a range of 3.75% to 4% on September 16, with August's Consumer Price Index inflation at 3.4%. Higher yields have pressured non-income assets like gold, which has dropped nearly 26% from its January high.
