LG Electronics Files Patent for Blockchain-Based Data Trading
LG Electronics has filed a patent in the United States for a technology that allows user data generated from home appliances such as TVs, refrigerators, and washing machines to be traded via blockchain. This patent, titled 'Blockchain-Based Data Transaction Device and Method,' was published in the U.S. on September 17. The patent number is 'US 2026/0278604.' The core of the technology is to register necessary parts of the data generated from home appliances on the blockchain and manage data access rights through tokens. The targeted devices include TVs, air conditioners, washing machines, refrigerators, and vacuum cleaners, which can collect various usage data. The data is not stored directly on the blockchain; instead, summarized information is provided to buyers, and the data is selectively traded upon purchase requests. After the transaction is completed, it is recorded on the blockchain, and the data provider receives compensation. Additionally, there are provisions that allow transactions without users holding virtual assets. LG Electronics has taken a cautious stance regarding interpretations that this patent will lead to the actual launch of services.
